Leaving but not Forgotten

We are now packing the final boxes and giving away the few remaining assets here in our Dehiwala office. We are hoping to hand over two small donations to the villages Women's Rural Development Societies of Karaveddy, Batticaloa and  Muthumari Nagar, Vavuniya North, before we finally close the bank accounts tomorrow and hand over our office to its owners.

Nonviolent Peaceforce has been one of the few NGO's, known in many parts of the worst affected areas conflict areas, for remaining with the local communities when the going got really tough. We cannot claim to have stopped violence or made a big difference to the outcome of the protracted conflict but many individual testimonies paid tribute to the change that we were able to bring into the lives of a few.

We now leave Sri Lanka having completed a sustained period of training for many local leaders to improve their skills in bridging the gulf between communities in conflict. We hope they will remain in contact with us and build networks of sustainable action in building a more peaceful Sri Lanka.
